Amy Zhang is the stylish blogger behind the fashion and lifestyle blog, The Luxi Look. Zhang, who works a full-time job, created The Luxi Look as her side hustle. We spoke to Zhang about what she’s learned from running a side hustle, her advice to aspiring bloggers, and why she believes in faking it ‘til you make it.

What prompted you to start your blog, The Luxi Look?

Amy Zhang: The blog was born out of a desire to be more creative and entrepreneurial. I wanted to create my own space to share my life and style while learning new skills. It's been incredibly empowering and rewarding to build something from the ground up, no matter how small!

You also work a full-time job. What’s the most valuable lesson you’ve learned by having your blog as a side hustle?

AZ: More time doesn’t mean you get more done! With that said, prioritization is everything - you only have so many hours in the day. Also, focus on yourself. Wasted energy is wasted time - focus on yourself, your goals, and what YOU need to do instead of looking around at what other people are doing.

Would you ever work full-time as a blogger? Why or why not?

AZ: Maybe. I wouldn't rule it out, but there is SO much I want to do! I feel like I have a long way to go with my blog and in the meantime, I have lots of other career goals outside of my blog.

What advice would you share with someone who wants to become a fashion and/or lifestyle blogger like you?

AZ: I would ask, what are your goals in starting a blog? Is it just for fun? Are you trying to blog full time? Figuring out what you are trying to accomplish from starting a blog is important. I don't believe in doing things just to do them. Be intentional with your time and energy. And then, once you've figured that part out, just do! Talk is cheap. I believe in taking action. Even little steps, every day, will go a long way with time.

What are three fashion tips you'd share with millennials on getting dressed for success, or the workplace?

AZ:

-Dress for the job you want, not the job you have. A little bit of effort goes a long way!

-Dress appropriately. Be aware of office guidelines and dress code.

-Be yourself. Your style should reflect who you are as a person. Don't be afraid to take risks and express yourself through what you wear to work.

On The Luxi Look, Zhang often shares life advice and we especially loved her tips on why you should fake it till you make it. Here are her three main reasons why:

  1. You’ll believe in yourself and be more confident.

  2. It can help in social situations.

  3. You’ll be taken more seriously.
